While the days of the itinerary may not follow a strict order, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy every section of the Snowies Alpine Walk, with adjustments made based on operational logistics and weather conditions. If weather conditions are challenging, you’ll have the option to skip or substitute sections at your discretion, or if you choose a guided option, your guide will assist in making those decisions. Each walking section ranges in length, allowing you to explore Kosciuszko National Park at your own pace while making the most of the stunning Snowy Mountains scenery.
Arrive at your accommodation in Kosciuszko National Park and take some time to settle in and explore the area. Depending on your arrival time, you may have the option to begin the first section of the Snowies Alpine Walk from Guthega to Charlotte Pass. We can arrange the necessary transport if required.
Guthega to Charlotte Pass (9km one-way, 4 - 6 hours)
Follow the cascading waters of the Snowy River winding through magnificent landscapes of alpine heath, snowgum forests, wildflower fields, and crossing Australia’s highest elevation suspension bridge at Spencers Creek.
On this section, expect breathtaking views of mountain peaks, distant waterfalls, the crystal clear Snowy River. You’ll have the opportunity to cool off in the refreshing waters, see the historic Illawong Lodge from afar (built in 1926), and the Guthega Dam, part of the Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric Scheme.

Main Range Loop and Summit of Mt Kosciuszko (22 km, 7 - 9 hours)
A popular section of the Snowies Alpine Walk, this full-day adventure takes you through glacier-carved landscapes and stunning alpine scenery, culminating at the summit of Australia’s highest peak, Mt Kosciuszko. Along the way, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of rugged mountain peaks, alpine lakes, and ever-changing landscapes. Depending on the season, you may encounter vibrant wildflowers or snowdrifts. Cross the Snowy River on stepping stones and pause to be enveloped in the natural beauty of the Snowy Mountains. At the summit, enjoy 360° panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and valleys.
This is a 22 km walk, which can be broken into two shorter sections if preferred, with the option to add additional nights for a more leisurely pace.
Highlights: Blue Lake, Lake Albina, Club Lake, Hedley Tarn, Seamans Hut, Main Range, Mt Kosciuszko, Mt Townsend, Carruthers Peak, Mt Sentinel, Mt Twynam.
Charlotte Pass to Perisher Valley (12.7km one way, 4 - 6 hours)
Pack your camera, as today’s walk is sure to impress. This newer section of the Snowies Alpine Walk is quickly becoming a favourite, thanks to its diverse and stunning landscapes. Starting from Charlotte Pass Village, you'll cross vast alpine plains, meander through snowgum bushlands, and explore dramatic rocky outcrops. Along the way, you’ll be treated to breathtaking panoramic views that stretch as far as the eye can see, immersing you in the awe-inspiring beauty of the Snowy Mountains.
Highlights: Charlotte Pass Village, Mt Stilwell, Porcupine Rocks, Crackenback Valley.
Perisher Valley to Bullocks Flat (12km one way, 4 - 5 hours)
This section of the Snowies Alpine Walk takes you through diverse alpine landscapes, starting from Perisher Valley. Wander through twisted snow gums, towering alpine ash, and mossy bogs, home to unique alpine frogs. As you pass herb fields and grasslands, take in expansive views of the surrounding mountains.
Stop at the lookout for panoramic vistas over Thredbo Valley and the Monaro Plains. In spring and summer, the hills are dotted with vibrant wildflowers, and you may spot wallabies, kangaroos, echidnas, and wombats.
The final stretch follows the Thredbo River to Bullocks Flat, with sweeping views of the rugged Ramshead Range, often snow-capped into early summer.
